What to do in Seri Manjung?

Seri Manjung

Seri Manjung is an emerging township located in the west of Perak. Seri Manjung is the principal urban centre of the Manjung district, hence it is the administrative and business centre of the district. Due to its proximity to tourism hotspots, both local and international tourists generally opt to stay in Seri Manjung before visiting the Pangkor and Sembilan Islands, or the Teluk Batik and Teluk Rubiah beaches. Head to Seri Manjung for delicious seafood delicacies, caught fresh from the Strait of Malacca. Seri Manjung is located 2 hours away from Ipoh, the capital city of Perak, and is 3 hours north of Kuala Lumpur.

Pangkor Island

This resort island is located an hour away from Seri Manjung. The island is accessible by taking a ferry from the Lumut Jetty, a 15 minute drive from Seri Manjung. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival at the jetty for MYR 10, and the journey to the island takes approximately 45 minutes.

Lumut

Lumut is a coastal town, a 15 minute drive from Seri Manjung. This town is the base for the Royal Malaysian Navy and is the gateway to Pangkor Island. Popular attractions apart from the navy base are the Teluk Batik, Teluk Rubiah and the quieter Teluk Senangin. If swimming in the open sea isn't your cup of tea, Lumut's very own waterpark, the Marina Cove Resort Waterpark, may suit your needs.

Sitiawan

10 minutes down the road from Seri Manjung, Sitiawan is a niche tourist destination akin to Seri Manjung. It is the home to the Tua Pek Kong temple and is famous for its Fuzhou heritage.

Pantai Remis

Similar to Lumut, this coastal town is home to five beaches and is another seafood restaurant hotspot as it is located right next to the Strait of Malacca. If you would like to experience the lifestyle of humble fishermen, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Pantai Remis is only 45 minutes away from Seri Manjung by car.

Teluk Intan

An hour away from Seri Manjung is Teluk Intan, the capital of Hilir Perak district. This town is rich in Perak heritage, as this was the site where the Perakian Sultanate was established by refugees from the Malaccan Sultanate, fleeing from the Portuguese conquest of Malacca in the year 1511. Teluk Intan and the Italian city of Pisa both have something in common: an architectural flaw that is now a tourist attraction. Teluk Intan is home to the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan, constructed in 1885 and has a clock that still rings every 15 minutes. It also has a couple of temples, a war memorial and the ruins of the Raja Muda's Palace as places of interest.

Pasir Salak

45 minutes away from Seri Manjung is the historical riverside town of Pasir Salak. One of the most important events in the history of pre-independent Malaysia took place here. In the early 19th century, an uprising against the colonial presence saw the murder of the British Resident of Perak, J.W.W. Birch by local Perakians Dato Maharaja Lela and Sepuntum. Birch was assassinated because he showed disrespect to the local traditions and was always in conflict with the local chiefs. The entire region where the uprising and assassination had occurred was gazetted as a historical complex in the year 1990, and this area remains to be a popular tourist attraction for those who are interested in the history of Malaysia.
